An Escape Amidst the Ruins
It can be difficult for the adult mind to retain its childhood ability of perceiving the world with playful imagination, curiosity, and wonder. The child often manifests these mental abilities through adventure and play, and the ‘tree house’, a well-known childhood desire, is a desire for exactly that reason - it is a space where these abilities are free to wander and grow, limitless, before the backdrop of the rich green foliage, and blue sky, sheltered by the canopy.
For the adult, the treehouse can awaken from its slumber, that childlike wonder and imagination and be a getaway from the daily responsibilities and monotonous schedules - a portal to childhood.
The proposed treehouses situated amongst medieval French ruins - Vibrac and Mothe Chandeniers - are based on a subtle relation between the medieval board game structures of the temporal period of the ruins. The treehouses incorporate a sense of playfulness with sliding components constructed by a timber slot mechanism structure.
